Healing on the Sabbath

The chapter begins with a powerful encounter where Jesus heals a man suffering from dropsy (also known as edema) on the Sabbath. Jesus is keenly aware of the presence of the Pharisees, who are carefully observing Him, possibly looking to trap Him into violating the Sabbath law. He poses a crucial question to them: “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath, or not?”

When they remain silent, Jesus demonstrates compassion by healing the man, showing that mercy takes precedence over strict legal interpretations. This idea of extending generosity to those who cannot give back is powerful.
